My Machu Picchu

My Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is in a remote high area of Peru with many things to see nearby. In addition to the ruins there are two amazing hikes on either side should not be missed. Plan six months to a year in advance for tickets alone. This site has become terribly over tourists did but still worth making the trip and doing some hikess. Consider the Inca trail. If you have time and money I understand it’s  pretty amazing. People carry everything for you  and you just walk the Inca trail.

Aguas Calientes Peru

Aguas Calientes Peru – Main drag.  Interesting and peculiar thing in Peru where train tracks run right down the middle of town with almost Zero clearance on either side.

Hannah and Janice on the train to Machu Picchu

Hannah and Janice looking out the top of the windows on the train on the ride to Machu Picchu. Amazing train ride through small towns, through the mountains and switchbacks where the train would go forwards and backwards up steep inclines. Beautiful.

Rainbow Mountain originally known as Vinicunca, is found in the Andes mountains of Peru.  It is still on my list.  Perfect example of regrading the things you don’t do more than the things you do.  On on my trip to Peru with my wife and two of my children,  my son Zack got up at 4am and took the 4 hour ride from Cusco to hike at hike at 14,000 feet.  I wish I had gone with him.  You almost have to use a tour.  More to come.  Click on pictures below to see more.
