The Biggest events of 2023 was the birth of two grandchildren.  Ben and Dannielle and Hannah and  James. Look on the “My Tiny Perfect Things” page for that.

Amsterdam planning and (notes)

Big Trip for 2023 was Netherlands and Belgium

We have landed at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol  many time.  We have spent the night in Amsterdam at the airport a few times but we never left because we were on our way other places. In 1984, I visited Amsterdam and developed a deep appreciation for Dutch artists. I always wanted to go back.   I never saw any tulips.  Timing is important for tulips.    We’ve talked about going to see the tulips and also visiting Ghent, home of the Ghent altarpiece. One of the places that we had not considered and were advised to go see was Bruges. One of the few medieval cities relatively untouched by the world wars. So we planned the trip. It was surprising to me how many of the things we wanted to do required advance purchase tickets. And luckily we were able to get them except for one. The rights Museum exhibit.  A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see many many Dutch artists works. Spoiler alert. We ended up managing to get in at the last minute. In any case, Amsterdam is a direct flight from Salt Lake City is really nice. We arrive and picked up the car and embarked on our adventure. So many bicycles. So many traffic signals. So many painted lines in the roads. Probably the most complicated driving I’ve ever experienced.  I Would Rather Dr. in Cairo where there are no lines no lights that people obey it would be easier just avoiding bumping into other cars and trying to figure out all of the signals signs and lines. But we managed without accident and without a ticket.
